Plaque psoriasis is the most common type of psoriasis and typically presents on lighter skin as red plaques with silvery scales. On darker skin, plaque psoriasis can appear as purple or dark brown. The plaques may be thick, raised, cover a large area of skin, and usually have very defined borders. Eczema, however, presents as thinner patches of dry, red, or brown bumpy skin, and the borders between affected and unaffected skin are not as defined as plaque psoriasis.
Most often, the scales of psoriasis are thicker and somewhat drier in appearance than are the scales of seborrheic dermatitis.
However, every individual’s situation is unique and should be evaluated. The best way to confirm if you have one of these skin conditions is to be evaluated by a physician and receive an official diagnosis. Our providers will review your medical history, symptoms, and photos to determine a diagnosis.
